UK Government Food Standards Agency

Prior to leaving his employment with ADAS in 2007, Keith was heavily involved in delivery of the Food Standards Agency Hazard Analysis and Food Safety Management Initiative for Specialist Cheesemakers.

Keith delivered consultancy visits to specialist cheesemakers across the North of England, often accompanied by the local Environmental Health Officer. The purpose of the visit was to help the cheesemakers to demonstrate to their local authority and other interested stakeholders that they operated a structured approach to hazard analysis and food safety management on a day to day basis along with correct operation of Good Manufacturing Practices.

This simplified type of approach to demonstrating effective control of food safety has been very useful to other recent clients in the dairy and fresh produce sectors.

Initially the company achieved ADAS Hygiene Accreditation in 1996, progressing to ADAS Elite Hygiene Accreditation in 2001, closely followed by Certification to the first edition of the BRC/IoP Technical Standard. They have since successfully progressed to Certification to Issue 2 and now Issue 3 of the BRC/IoP Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials with regular input from Effective Control Ltd along the way.

Inputs have included Basic Hygiene Training of the work force, HACCP Training, Supervisor Hygiene Training, Practical Hygiene Management Courses, Refresher Hygiene Training, regular inspection/consultancy audits, Gap Analyses against new Standards and dealing with specific customer issues. Help has also been given in developing suppliers’ hygiene standards, ensuring new facilities were “hygienically” designed and on integration of management systems.

DS Smith Packaging

DS Smith Packaging has recently used Effective Control for Packaging Hygiene Refresher Training of personnel at one site, and for training of internal hygiene/quality auditors at another.

Octal Petrochemicals FZC

Octal Petrochemicals FZC is a world leading supplier of PET Resin and Sheet based in Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman. Octal recognised that they needed to achieve Certification to the BRC/IoP Global Standard for Food Packaging and Packaging Materials in order to satisfy the demands of their current and potential customers.

Keith Ogden worked with Octal to train factory personnel and to undertake a Gap Analysis against the standard to identify what actions were required for achievement of Certification. A recommendations report was prepared giving clear advice and recommendations for action. These were promptly implemented by Octal resulting in a successful Certification Audit a few weeks later.

BPI Films Sevenoaks

Inputs included advice on design, layout, materials, process flow, people flow, storage, transport, staff facilities, documentation, policies etc. All personnel were trained in Basic Packaging Hygiene and a pre-audit was undertaken to help fine tune systems and standards prior to the formal Certification Audit. Further training of new personnel has been completed since.
