Crown Bevcan Europe & Middle East
Following various training and consultancy inputs in 2007, 8, 9 & 10 at Crown Bevcan UK, and Crown Arabia Can Co in the Middle East it was agreed that Effective Control Ltd could help the Crown Bevcan Group with achievement of BRC/IoP Global Standard Certification across their EU and Middle East plants in 2011 and 2012.
Keith Ogden had worked with development and implementation of Hygiene, Product Safety and HACCP Standards across the Beverage Can Sector for nearly 10 years and so was ideally qualified to help with this work.
In early 2011 a comprehensive BRC/IoP Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials (Issue 4) Implementation Guide was developed by Keith Ogden with some input from the Crown Bevcan Group Quality/Food Safety Team. The implementation guide gave detailed advice on how to comply with every single clause of the standard with specific reference to the Beverage Can and End Manufacturing Processes. Guidance was given on what evidence was necessary to demonstrate compliance with each clause of the standard and advice was given on which clauses might be exempted in this sector (based on hazard and risk analysis).
A number of plants within the Crown Bevcan Group were already certificated to the BRC/IoP Global Standard however a number were not. These plants had to start implementing the requirements of the standard, including the training requirements.
Beverage Can and End sector specific training courses were developed to help these plants met the training requirements of the standard, but more importantly to help them understand what they needed to do, why and how.
A one day Senior Management BRC/IoP Global Standard Awareness/Implementation Training Course was developed along with a two day Hygiene/Hazard and Risk Management Team Training Course. These courses have so far been delivered at Crown Bevcan Slovakia (February 2011), Crown Bevcan Seville, Spain (June 2011), Crown Bevcan Turkey (September 2011) and Crown Arabia Can Co, Dubai (October 2011), with further courses planned for 2012.
So far three of the above plants have had their formal certification audits and have achieved BRC/IoP Global Standard Certification.
